Big Enough to Do the Job, Small Enough to Care

Last month we just completed our annual Customer event NEXUS, as usual the event was excellent. During some downtime in the Exhibit Hall I got a chance to chat with one of our ECM Partner Representatives from IBM. During this conversation I was struck by some of the comments made to me, particularly about our customers. During the conversation they said that they have never seen such loyalty from customers towards a company (ImageSource). I can assure you after 43 years in the computer industry & many years competing with IBM, comments like that are far & few between. Over the next couple of days I continued to think more and more about the comments and its true, then I asked myself why, what do we do different that inspires that level of loyalty? The answer was actually pretty simple, “We Care”. In all my presentations I usually close by saying something along the lines, “We are big enough to do the job, but still small enough to care”. From Sales to our Professional Services team and throughout every person in the company we all care.

Okay, so now I have 30+ days under my belt, in “my” new world of ECM ( Enterprise Content Management).  To say it is a new “world” is the understatement of the year.   So much to learn, so much to know, and so much to share!

One of the big things that I hear “buzzing” around is the concept of COMPLIANCE and RISK!   What does that mean?  What does that include? How do we begin to manage that?  As IT/Record Managers in the content management space, how can we keep pace with the many new forms of communication, when the traditional forms of communication and business interactions kept us quite busy.  Now that Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIN, Blogs,Wiki’s etc. are all the rage, it has become more challenging than before.

Take a look at this branding, advertising, marketing company’s home page: http://www.exclaimllc.com/  In summary, their client’s customers are demanding to be  reached through many different avenues.  Many companies are choosing some of these communication methods, but I think Exclaim did a brilliant job of showcasing all the options plus their expertise in understanding messaging in these new forms of communications.

Now the question is, what does this mean as far as compliance and risk?  Is your company ready to manage the amount of data that is coming in and out of your organization on a daily basis?   Take a look at this slide provided in a recent AIIM Orgainziation Webinar.   Very interesting percentages to consider.  There are many different approaches to tackling this issue.  Companies are now beginning to evaluate the risk they have while participating in these new communication channels.  We can provide some insight on these different approaches. What are you doing to minimize the risk?

ECM – From the Eyes of the “New Kid on the Block”

Intro – to Enterprise Content Management (ECM) in 7 days.

I started the journey in a new town, new company, and new industry on Sunday, November 1st. It has truly been one of the most exciting first weeks in the history of my career. ImageSource hosted Nexus 2009 at the Hyatt/Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue, WA. This is an industry driven conference that is held annually and focuses on timely and relevant ECM topics. This two day conference is a top notch event. I attended as a new employee but more as if I was an outsider looking in. I have learned everything from a whole new set of acronyms to a more responsible way of consuming and sharing data. I have attended conferences all over the nation with hosts as large as Johnson and Johnson and this event ranks above and beyond the rest. Each moment for me was relevant, educational, and worthwhile. I believe customers left understanding the importance of how we should manage our data in a corporate environment, and how to take control of it. It isn’t about solving the overall problem, but accepting that this is part of something greater. It was summarized in a funny yet concise way when Pam Doyle, Director at Fujitsu said that “Implementing an ECM solution is similar to eating an elephant one bite at a time.” As the new kid, full of excitement I have tasked myself with raising awareness about this event and gathering the best people to join us for next year. One of the folks that have chosen to join me in my journey is Jeff Shuey – industry blogger. Jeff is a technology expert and his knowledge ranges over many topics. I want to thank him for being willing to take me on as a mentee in this new world! To read Jeff’s blog, visit www.jshueywa.blogspot.com.

Capture, Connect, Share

That was the resonating thought left on people’s minds after attending Nexus 2009 at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue, WA. The ILINX product line is a unique product offered only by ImageSource, Inc. It’s a flexible web-based capture software suite that allows a distributed capture solution. It has no volume licensing, so there is no limitation on how many documents are scanned. Attendees were very impressed with the ILINX products and how they co-exist with other capture software in the same environment.

“It so easy to become complacent with our day to-day routine, sometimes you need something to shake you and rejuvenate you! This is what our Nexus conference does for me. It gives me a chance to meet my customer and to be remind that what we do improves peoples work environment and in essence we improve our customers’ lives at work and we all know we spend more time at work than anywhere else so we are improving lives! I get a chance to see how our customer are excited about the changes in the market places and they are genuinely excited about improving their environments.“ – Ruben Kerson, Inside Sales Manager at ImageSource

Until next year everyone!!
